One of the many fabulous recipes to be found in Matilda's book:

Beef and Vegetable Potjiekos

Sauce:
  • 125ml sweet sherry
  • 5ml cracked pepper
  • 2 tbsp chopped rosemary
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 125ml soy sauce
  • 3ml mustard powder
  • 2 tbsp chopped thyme

You also need:
  • 125g dried peaches, soaked for 1 hour and drained
  • 30ml Gourmet Afrika Roasted Garlic & Rosemary oil
  • 1kg gravy beef in cubes
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 4 carrots, sliced
  • 4 potatoes, cut in chunks
  • 2 tbsp chopped thyme
  • Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp garlic
  • 2 sweet potatoes, sliced
  • 6 zucchini, sliced
  • 1 tin tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley

Heat the oil in the cast iron pot. Brown the meat, a few pieces at a time. Remove and set aside. Add the onion and garlic and gently fry until onion is brown. Mix all ingredients for the sauce and add to the meat. Stir well to mix. Cover and simmer for 1.5 hours.

Now place the dried fruit first, and then the vegies in order on the meat. Season with black pepper. Cover and simmer for 2 hours. Sprinkle with parsley and thyme.

Bobotie! I need to win this book because a truely traditional SA cookbook will most certainly have a recipe for bobotie. Today we have been here in Aus for 1 year and for just over year I have not had bobotie because I can't find a nice recipe!

I love food and cooking, I'm studying a Bachelor of Nutrition and I devour cookbooks and TV shows about food. However, I don't know much about African food, and I'd love to learn about it and incorporate the flavours and ideas into my cooking. My partner is quite picky, but I'd love to widen his eating horizons, as well as my own. I'm excited already!

We have recently moved to Oz and there are 6 of us living together..my hubby,myself, my two sons and their girlfriends.The girls are from NZ and Oz, so I think it would be really super for the FOREIGNERS in the family to learn to cook in the traditional SA way, so that they can surprise us LOCALS with our own wonderful KOS!If they want to make the queen bee and her men happy, they will have to become genuine SAFFERS, and I think Matilda's book could be the one and only way this could be done!

Hi, I would love to win Matilda's book because my family really, really need me to. I try to follow recipes but they always require ingredients I can't even pronounce and can never find whereas Matilda's recipes are easy to follow and are 'flop proof' - exactly what my family needs. Well done, Matilda!

I would love to win a " Cooking for pleasure cookbook" because I love cooking, its my favorite past time and very entertaining and calming, I love it when family and friends enjoy my cooking and go home feeling relaxed and full.

My good lady wants me to cook. I love beans, lentils, and stews but need this book to resuscitate my taste buds to the cooking I grew up with, lekker suid afrikaanse kos, smaaklik. So I think I should win, for my wife's sake.
