25 Years ago, exactly, Pirelli and Volkswagen teamed up to release the ‘Original Pirelli’. In May 1983 Volkswagen fitted a set of custom designed alloys neatly tucked into a set of sporty Pirelli tyres and released a limited edition Pirelli Edition Golf GTI. They only made 10,500 units and all of them were sold within the first 6 months. Now the Pirelli limited edition Golf GTI is back.

What do you do when you have a nice home but one that looks tired and drab? This is how Beulah and Pieter of Brisbane felt about their house. However, after reading about ex South African, decorator Deborah Atkins of Red Door Interiors, in an issue of Sabona, Beulah felt that she would be able to relate to their specific needs and she asked her to come to their assistance.

If you believe you have a cholesterol problem, then the following could be one of the most important pieces of information you could read. Are you nervous, depressed, anxious, or suffer from mood swings, have been diagnosed with cancer, or had a stroke or suffered stroke like symptoms (TIA’s). It could mean your cholesterol is too low. The “Cancer Research Foundation” advises that “Cholesterol that is too low, especially below 4, can cause depression, suicide, stroke and cancer.” At the other end of the scale if your cholesterol is too high your body is trying to warn you to the fact that there is chronic inflamed tissue in your body. This inflamed tissue could be arthritis, overweight, neck, shoulder or lower back pain, fibro myalgia, polymyalgia and digestive pain like reflux, heartburn and bloating just to name a few.

Wow hey the New Year is already well under way and the festive season is fast becoming a fading memory. Hopefully some of you guys received a few new additions to the fishing arsenal and have been testing them on some of the great fishing that has been on the cards over the last few months. Here on the Gold Coast we experienced an excellent marlin season with small blacks around in large numbers up and down the coast. It was exciting fishing with everyone getting in on the action.

Recently, we sold our restaurant. We owned and ran it for a year and a half, which was about a year and 5 months too long. The initial heady rush of power and achievement, of finally realising our dream, was brief. It began on the morning of the opening and faded around 9pm the same day, when a table of thirteen arrived.

To think that as I write this article it is almost a year to date since I left South Africa, is truly astonishing. I don’t know how but the memories seem both distant and recent at the same time. Looking back at 2008, I see it as a personal success. If I were to have a New Years Resolution, it would be to take my momentum and run with it - to make hay while the sun shines, and what better time in a young man’s life for the figurative sun to shine than his last year of High School? A year ago, however, things were very different. Some would even say that I had to blow the clouds away and make the sun shine for myself.

Is your dog overweight? Has he or she failed to lose weight despite your best efforts with a diet? Perhaps there’s a medical reason for their plumpy figure? Does your dog suffer from recurrent skin infections, have a dull coat and shed a lot of hair, or maybe even have some balding patches? These can all be symptoms of an under-active thyroid gland.

The wonderful image on TV screens recently of Amla, Duminy, Ntini, de Villiers and Smith walking off the MCG together after becoming the first South African cricket team to beat
Australia in Australia was both historic and significant. Who would have thought even 20 years ago that an Englishman, Afrikaner, Coloured, Muslim Indian and a Xhosa Black would be sharing such a great moment.

So here you are: Your NYRs in your hand. You read aloud, “I want to get fitter. Lose weight. Run daily. Quit smoking. Eat more healthily….” Come to think of it (you say to yourself) you had these last year… and the year before that!

We went to see Johnny Clegg at the Great Concert Hall where he played a good selection of songs justifying the nearly R1000 we paid to go and watch. The audience went into a frenzy when Johnny broke into a bit of Zulu dancing during his hit song Impi leaving us all in goose bumps. One can never ever forget that African beat and rhythm, it is in your soul. “It’s a cruel, crazy wonderful world.”
